It never hit me 'til today

It never hit me til today
The kindness that was pushed away
As we come up and kiss your cheek
Then walk off with complacency
And with our lovers, lust and greed
And image, looks, the style we need
Everything to fill our lives
And still we keep on walking.

It never hit me til today
The pain of giving loved ones choice
To let your precious ones walk on
As we no longer seek your voice
Today it hit me hard and now
I’m filled with overwhelming grief
And I deserve to bow down low
And take on servant status

As we walk back in shame you turn
And run and run and run so fast
Kindness and compassion fierce
‘My child you have come home at last’
It never hit me til today
The kindness, your amazing grace
As I now run to arms so wide
I’m found in you, my safety.
